IBM DATASHAPER: Product + Design Triage
SITUATION (Context):
New initiative, assigned to new dev team from IBM Silicon Valley Lab in Sunnyvale.
TASK (Problem):
Needed designs yesterday, and didn’t have a product manager, key stakeholders were a front end and back end engineering lead. No PM and vision was to copy talend, competitor
ACTION (Solution):
Address design needs, build trust/equity, fly out triage workshop with best UX and UI designer deliver architectural designs for dev
to have something to code.
Delivered short term framework, sliding panel for them to code, and gave our design team time to design longterm what content/ux goes into the panel…
As the Design Lead I functioned as a PM. I also had a MBA analyst on my team, used to work for Samsung creating analysis against the iPhone.
Had him do market analysis, UX pattern analysis on other products, talend of course.
As well as a User Researcher, worked on several products in the space to do user interviews.
Weekly syncs on agile delivery, makeshift reqs.
RESULT (Outcome):
MVP, reqs, offering with unique to IBM features such as (data quality score).
By the end of the workshop, had a happy hour, in which stakeholder was truly happy and different tone.
And ultimately rolled off unto another initiative and the same team that didn’t want to work with us was calling executives how she needed “Chad’s” team
Based on the success, years later my Executive ended up staffing the SVL site with 50+ designers!!
